Plant of the Week

September Gardening Tips

Lawn Care

  • Remove moss now with Zero Lawn Moss; it starts working overnight.
  • Feed lawn 24 hours later using Zero Lawn Feed for nourishing growth and moss prevention.
  • Reseed bare patches or sow a new lawn with Green Velvet lawn seed; ideal while the ground’s still warm.

Autumn & Winter Garden Favourites

September is a great month for adding plants that'll provide colour, structure and interest as we head towards winter.

Autumn & Winter Climbers

Climbers are a wonderful way to make use of walls, fences and trellises. Planting while the soil is still warm gives roots time to establish before colder weather arrives.

Lavender

Beautiful, fragrant and wonderfully easy to grow, Lavender remains a firm garden favourite. Choose a sunny, well-drained position and avoid planting where the roots will sit wet over winter.

Flowering Alpines

Our 1 Litre Flowering Alpine Collection is ideal for rockeries, raised beds and containers. These hardy little plants are a lovely way to bring colour and texture into smaller spaces.

Irish Ivy: Hedera hibernica

For dependable evergreen coverage, it's hard to beat Irish Ivy. It's a hardy choice for covering walls and fences and provides valuable year-round greenery.

Garden Care

Control algae and moss on hard surfaces with PAC; apply on a dry, calm day and see it vanish in 7 days.

Before

After

Apply through a watering can or pressure sprayer on a dry calm day to the hard surface area and watch the moss and algae disappear in no time.

Give Summer Pots an Autumn Makeover

Don't give up on containers just because summer is ending! Remove tired plants and replace them with colourful autumn foliage and winter bedding.
And remember that handful of spring bulbs underneath – you'll be very glad you planted them when the first Narcissus and Tulips begin appearing next year.

Wild Garden Birds

  • Feed your feathered friends with high-energy options: sunflower seeds, fat balls, wild bird mixes; to help them build reserves for winter.
  • Clean out old nests from nesting boxes now, ready for future use.

Try Lasagne Planting

Want months of spring colour from one pot? Try lasagne planting your spring bulbs this year.
Plant bulbs in layers according to their planting depth, with later and deeper-flowering varieties towards the bottom. As one variety finishes, another begins, giving you a succession of colour from the same container.

Why These Actions Matter

  • A moss-free, fed lawn now sets you up for lush green grass next spring.
  • Sowing and planting today builds your harvest and displays for winter and beyond.
  • Adding climbers and wildflowers keeps your garden rich in colour and buzzing with wildlife.
  • Nourishing the birds supports nature in your garden; what a joy to watch them through the colder months.
