June Gardening Tips

Keep Your Veg Garden Growing

There's still plenty of time to sow crops for later harvests. June is ideal for sowing Spring Onions, Broccoli, Pak Choi and Fennel.
Keep feeding tomatoes and strawberries weekly with Big Tom to support healthy growth and bigger crops.

Help Pollinators & Protect Your Plants

Sow Nasturtiums around your garden and veg beds. They attract pollinators while acting as a natural trap crop, drawing aphids away from your prized plants.

Check Your Early Potatoes

Curious about your first crop? Carefully lift one or two plants to check tuber size. If they're still small, simply cover them back over and leave them for a couple more weeks.

Trim Hedges & Prune Shrubs

June is an excellent month to trim evergreen hedges and lightly prune spring-flowering shrubs such as Weigela, Berberis and Potentilla. Always check for nesting birds before cutting.

Water New Plantings

New shrubs, perennials and recently planted containers will need regular watering until they're fully established, especially during warm spells.

Mulch for a Healthier Garden

Top up beds and borders with bark mulch to help suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect plant roots. Our new Weedstop range offers even longer-lasting weed control.

Stay Ahead of Garden Pests

Keep an eye out for Vine Weevil and aphids this month. Treat Vine Weevil with Entonem Nematodes and tackle aphids early with an appropriate Bug Clear treatment.

Protect Your Fruit Harvest

Birds love strawberries just as much as we do! Use netting to protect soft fruit crops and ensure you get to enjoy the harvest yourself.

Stop & Smell the Roses

Continue deadheading roses and other summer flowers to encourage fresh blooms.
June is also perfect for cutting flowers from your garden — Peonies, Roses, Sweet Peas and Alstroemeria all make beautiful arrangements indoors.

Harvest & Propagate

Keep an eye on onions and garlic as they begin to mature. June is also a great month to take softwood cuttings from plants such as Hydrangeas, Buddleias, Roses and Hypericum for free plants next year.

Mind Your Greenhouse

Warm weather can quickly increase greenhouse temperatures. Improve ventilation, add shading where necessary, and use a thermometer to keep conditions comfortable for plants.

Time to Enjoy the Garden

After all your hard work, make sure to take some time to relax and enjoy your garden. A water feature can add movement, sound and a wonderfully calming atmosphere to your outdoor space.

June is all about enjoying your garden — bright colour, overflowing baskets and long evenings outdoors. A few simple additions now will reward you with months of summer enjoyment.
